The year 2008 started out so well for Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur. They were two key players on the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team that won the national title in March, and both were integral factors in that title game. Darrell Arthur dropped in 20 points and had 10 rebounds against Memphis that night, and Mario Chalmers hit the three-pointer at the end of regulation to save Kansas and send the game to overtime. Ever since that night, things haven’t gone so well for the duo.
Both players decided to capitalize on their success by leaving school early to enter the NBA draft, but neither was picked as early as they thought they’d be. Arthur slipped all the way down to 27 before the New Orleans Hornets drafted him, and Chalmers fell out of the first round entirely, going to the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 34th pick. Now Arthur is a member of the Grizzlies, while Chalmers is with the Heat. Of course, they won’t be playing for either team for quite a while now.
