The Milwaukee Brewers are unveiling a great new promotion on Friday — drive-in movies in their parking lot. Hmm, looks like I have a choice to make. Do I head over to Miller Park for a double feature, or stay at home and hit myself repeatedly over the head with a wooden mallet? It’s a tough decision.
(A double feature of doom!)
In these tough economic times, Major League Baseball is not too proud to dip into the Minor League playbook and pull out a few tricks. Movies at the ballpark have been popular in the minors for years, and one day earlier this year the Brewers noticed that they have a huge parking lot, and a fan base with cars and not much to do on weekends when the Brewers aren’t in town. If there are two stereotypes that I know about the British, it’s these: They are incredibly polite and afraid of offending anyone, and they have horrible teeth. The second one is apparently true, based on a documentary I saw on TV last year called “Britian’s Worst Teeth.” These people made Shane MacGowan of The Pogues look like George Clooney.
But after hearing about what happened at the Grand National - Britain’s version of the Kentucky Derby, except with jumps - I’m starting to wonder if the whole “polite” thing is true or not, at least with the TV reporters. Because the DAILY MAIL reports that BBC presenter Clare Balding has had to apologize to winning jockey Liam Treadwell after humiliating him about his teeth (or lack thereof) in the post-race interview.
Video of the infamous interview after the jump:
Ron Jaworski told SPORTS RADIO 950 WPEN in Philadelphia that the deal with the Patriots and Randy Moss could be on shaky ground.
“’Throughout the day what I do is talk to people around the National Football League and it is my understanding that that deal is not done yet,’ Jaworski said on the Jody McDonald show at about 3:30 Eastern this afternoon. “There are some grumblings coming out of New England. That deal may fall apart and the Eagles may be back in the running for Randy Moss. The money that was promised is not coming forth.’”
Stay tuned on this one.
