Former NBA player Kevin Johnson may have won the Sacramento mayoral election last fall, but that didn’t make all the dirt the previous mayor (Heather Fargo) and her supporters kicked up just disappear. (For your convenience: hints of underage sexual assault, evil landlordism, slimy direct mailings, etc.) Johnson and the city of Sacramento are still dealing with the repercussions.
That’s why it was something of a relief for KJ and the city when the whole nasty matter about alleged abuse of federal funds given to his foundation was resolved earlier this week.
Why the city? As part of the federal investigation, the feds put Johnson on a “do not receive any federal money” list, which just might have kept the city from getting any kind of federal assistance, crippling city services.
Remember: sometimes you have to burn down Sacramento to save it. (”It” being “Heather Fargo’s job”.)
If we’re ever in Sacramento… okay, we hope we’re never in Sacramento again. The street walker we spotted in a miniskirt, open satin jacket, and bra a few blocks from the state capitol ten years ago told us that one day in Sacramento was three days too many.
Still, we have absolutely no intention of messing with current mayor Heather Fargo if we ever have to step inside the city limits of Sacramento. She has proven without a doubt that anyone that dares throw an obstacle into her path had better be prepared to become suddenly unlucky for as long as the obstacle is in place.
(We suspect this might be the classiest moment for Sacramento all year)
Kevin Johnson, former NBA player and current mayoral candidate in the charming town of Sacramento, has entered a runoff election against Fargo with more votes than her in the first round of elections. That’s despite magically appearing allegations of underage gropeage, totally unaffiliated nasty mailings, and downright dirty fighting about supposed slumlorddom.
Now the federal government has wondrously appeared to accuse KJ of misusing AmeriCorps funds to give cash to volunteers to campaign for the local school board race, recruit kids to his academy, and washing his car (among other efforts). Really, Fargo’s enemies just have the most unlucky times!
The black man came up with more support and voters than the white woman, but it wasn’t enough to secure a clear majority. Therefore, we’re in for more months of backstabbing, frontstabbing, and other forms of chicanery before finally deciding on a leader. It’s painful for the greater electorate that are ready to work on economic and other issues, but no one will concede.
That’s right: your Sacramento mayoral election results are in.
Former NBA player Kevin Johnson mustered up 47% of the vote Tuesday to incumbent Heather Fargo’s 40%. However, a clear majority is required to declare a victor in Sacramento. Therefore, if this should stand (and there are still 15,000 absentee ballots to count), there will be a runoff election in the fall. Can Sacramento take another five months of this nasty election?
The Sacramento, CA, mayoral race has finally crossed the line from nasty to vindictive this week as the primary approaches June 3rd. Incumbent mayor and leading candidate Heather Fargo has asked the Sacramento police chief to reopen the sexual misconduct case against candidate and former NBA player Kevin Johnson.
Of course, Mayor Fargo wants us to know that the request has nothing to do with the mayoral race. Total coincidence. Unfortunately for her, the police work for the Sacramento city manager and not her, so all she can do is constantly bring up the 2007 allegation from a 17-year-old Sacramento girl (since recanted and dropped) to keep the sexual predator legacy alive.
NoWayKJ.com, set up by Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447’s PAC, also doesn’t exactly place Kevin Johnson in a fine light. Neither were black leaders, who didn’t care much for the mailers that announced the Web site. Fargo totally didn’t have anything to do with that, though. She’s happy to let them keep at it, though, without interruption.
So what would Heather Fargo like you to avoid hearing about her over the din about Johnson?
