CC Sabathia Takes The Money, Is Now A Yankee

Baseball’s Winter Meetings had been pretty boring before Francisco Rodriguez signed a three-year deal with the New York Mets on Tuesday, and K-Rod agreed to a deal that was well short of the five-year contract he and his agent had been looking for. Apparently seeing that Rodriguez, who set the MLB saves record last season with 62, couldn’t even get money and years he was looking for set off some alarms in CC Sabathia’s head.

CC may have wanted to be a Dodger, and he may have been hoping that some west coast team would come swooping in and offer him a deal comparable to the $140 million the Yankees had been offering, but it was becoming more apparent with each hour that it just wasn’t going to happen. Which is probably why, in the end, Sabathia finally realized he’d be the world’s biggest moron to turn down that kind of money right now.

Ron Artest Walking Out The Door In Sacramento?

SbB has been following the will-he-or-won’t-he saga of Kings forward Ron Artest and his decision on whether or not to exercise his opt-out clause, noting that he won’t take a cut in pay just to get a title. Now, the interest for his services has ratcheted up enough to where the SACRAMENTO BEE’S Sam Amick is expecting him to test the waters.

Amick got Artest to respond to a Peter Vecsey column in the NEW YORK POST, with Vecsey claiming Artest would exercise that option.

Ronaldinho Declined $50m Per Season MLS Offer?

An international soccer website is reporting that futbol sensation Ronaldinho was offered a 32-million-euro deal from the L.A. Galaxy (that’s about $49.58 million US, and it’s “after tax“).

Everybody Is Handing Out 6-Year Deals

Lance Briggs last year claimed he’d never play again for the Bears after they slapped the franchise tag on him. Now he may never leave. Yesterday, Chicago re-signed the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker to a 6-year deal.
