Usually, the main complaint against a sports talk show host is that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about … or that he’s biased against certain teams or players … or that he’s simply an egotistical, loudmouth jerk. But Charles “Scott” McKinney of 98.1 The Ticket in Fort Walton Beach, FL, managed to rack up some more serious complaints - such as fraud, theft and racketeering.

(Really looks like he upgraded that equipment, huh?)
The SANTA ROSA PRESS GAZETTE reports that McKinney will serve at least a year in prison after being convicted of bilking investors in his “Southern Sports Tonight” radio show out of more than $100,000. And for good measure, he also stole his ex-fiance’s credit card and ran up charges to the tune of $10,000.
But is that enough to get him fired from his job?

Before 2008, Delray Beach, Florida, had a segregated Little League program.

The two programs were finally integrated in time for the spring. As children of both races played together, a city laden with racial strife tried to follow their example. Read more…
The MIAMI HERALD has the story about five members of the Cuban national under-23-year-old team that took part in in a qualifying tournament for the Olympics in Tampa and decided they liked the place so much that they’d settle down and seek political asylum.

”We’re fine, calm, feeling hopeful about our new lives,” (team captain Yenier) Bermudez told The Miami Herald by phone Wednesday night. “Of course, we’re nervous because we’re young, have no family here, and we don’t yet know the way of life here, but we hope the Cuban and American communities will help us get started.”
And, uhhhh, if they don’t help us, we’ll always be able to do headers on the streets for spare change and Chex Mix! Read more…

The MIAMI HERALD reports that the Marlins will be remaining in Miami, after city & county officials approved a deal for a new ballpark.

Two separate votes by the Miami City Commission and the Miami-Dade County Commission sealed the deal Thursday night. The $525 million plan calls for a new 37,000-seat stadium (complete with a retractable roof) to be built on the soon-to-be vacant Orange Bowl site.

Two Montreal Canadiens were arrested outside a Tampa nightclub early Monday morning - all because of a stolen purse.

The CBC reports that Ryan O’Byrne was charged with grand theft, while teammate Tom Kostopoulos was charged with resisting an officer. It all started when a woman at the Whiskey Park bar told security her purse was missing. The bar’s bouncers apparently saw O’Byrne outside the bar with the purse and the woman’s cellphone.
Police soon arrived to question the hockey player about the purse. And he gave quite an unconvincing answer.

The PALM BEACH POST reports this week that Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Cora “was booked into the Martin County jail Wednesday on a charge of failure to appear in court for a probation violation connected to a 1999 DUI charge.”

Vero Beach police arrested Cora for DUI in 1999, “after they said he smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests.” He “pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to probation.”
But Cora then made a mistake that caused him to turn himself into Martin County authorities earlier this week. Read more…

The woman who accused Randy Moss of battery may end up getting nothing for her trouble.

The BOSTON HERALD reports that Rachelle Washington and her attorney David McGill will likely end up empty-handed in their quest for payback. Moss lawyer Richard Sharpstein says, “She’s not going to get a nickel out of this and she’s going to get no satisfaction out of it.”
During the war of words between McGill and Moss agent Tim DiPietro, Randy’s camp was willing to give Washington $100,000 to keep quiet about the so-called incident. But McGill counter-offered with a $500,000 demand, adding, “Take it or leave it.”
Now the tables may have turned on McGill & Washington.

The war of words is heating up between Randy Moss and his accuser - or more specifically, between Moss’ agent and the lawyer for Moss’ accuser.

The only points of contention that agent Tim DiPietro and attorney David McGill seem to agree on is that Moss and accuser Rachelle Washington were long-time friends, and that Washington injured her hand in the alleged incident.
Then the trade-offs begin.

PRO FOOTBALL TALK came across a report from WDBO radio in Florida that Randy Moss was given a restraining order against a woman who says he assaulted her.

The order, issued by Broward County, means that Moss cannot come within 500 yards of the woman, nor can he use or possess firearms.
Looks like the Pats’ receiver is in trouble again. Or is he?

2ND WOMAN SEEKS INJUNCTION AGAINST ELIJAH DUKES: Elijah Dukes has a way with the ladies - a violent way:
The ST. PETERSBURG TIMES reports that another woman has asked a judge to grant an injunction against the former Rays & current Nationals player. After breaking up in October, the woman has said she’s received threatening text messages from Dukes. The texts include warning her she’ll “have to deal with the consequences“, “don’t let me see you when I come home” and “it’s a promise, now make your move.”
The woman also reports Dukes has been calling her home at “inappropriate times”. One such call includes Dukes telling the woman, “It’s on.”
This is the second injunction sought on Dukes from frightened females. Earlier this year, the player’s ex-wife asked for a restraining order after Dukes left messages threatening to kill her.And his wayward way with women doesn’t stop there. When a 17-year-old told Dukes he was carrying his baby, Dukes reportedly got angry and threw a Gatorade at the girl.
The ladies in D.C. better beware of this ladykiller.
Or attempted ladykiller, anyway.
