First thing you saw on the front page of the Cavaliers official website after LeBron James announced he was leaving Cleveland? Delonte West:

Delonte West on front of Cavs website

Seems a curious choice, to feature a guy with so many off-court issues who the Cavs are reportedly trying to dump.

Or not.

Cavs fans though, weren’t as subtle.

Police Chief: LeBron Hires More Off-Duty Officers

As Cleveland braces for Lebron James‘ decision today, the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER reports that James has recently increased security at his Bath Township, Ohio, mansion outside Cleveland.

Lebron James Mansion

Bath Township Police Chief Michael McNeely said,  “He has hired our officers to work off-duty at his property,. There has always been an officer there, inside the gate. He has increased the number of officers working there in the past week.

If James knew he was staying in Cleveland, why did he recently hire more cops to guard his estate?

The Plain Dealer also noted:

McNeeley said he has a plan in place in case hundreds of people show up that would include calling in aid from surrounding police departments. The Bath force has 20 officers.

“We’re hoping we won’t need it,” he said.

Based on comments from longtime Plain Dealer Cavaliers beat reporter Brian Windhorst, who is from Akron and has known James for 10 years, McNeely might. Read more…

Shaw: Cavs Not Entertaining Possible LeBron Loss

Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw recently spent two days interviewing for the head coaching position of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brian Shaw with Kobe Bryant

Shaw guested on KSPN-AM’s “Mason and Ireland Show” today in Los Angeles and talked about the attitude of Cavs management during those those discussions as it pertained to LeBron James‘ future with the franchise.

KSPN’s Steve Mason to Shaw:

It’s your sense that they’re (Cavaliers) not even entertaining the concept that LeBron won’t be there next year?”

Shaw:

“Exactly. I don’t blame them. As an organization, they (Cavs) made a conscious effort (during Shaw’s interview) to really focus on talking about what the team would be like with him there.

“I’m sure they have a backup plan (if James leaves) but it wasn’t something we discussed in the two days I was there.”

Byron Scott reportedly has since landed the gig over Shaw, with his close relationship to Chris Paul, who is advised by William Wesley (”World Wide Wes”), being cited as a possible reason Scott edged Shaw for the job. Read more…

Team Player? LeBron Won’t Speak To Tom Izzo!

The unintentionally uproarious conduct of LeBron James continues as CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER Cavs beat reporter Brian Windhorst reports today:

Lebron James: All About Winning

(He’s All About Winning, Which Is Why He Won’t Talk To Izzo)

A source today: LeBron respects coach Izzo but continues his plan not to get involved with Cavs coach search or speak to candidates.

So what’s preventing James from speaking to Izzo? Not club owner Dan Gilbert, who reportedly has Izzo as his first choice to coach the team. Read more…

NY Daily News: No Shame When Begging James

Frank Isola of the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS has a story today on the chances LeBron James could leave Cleveland for the Knicks.

New York Daily News URL Asks Lebron To Ditch Cleveland

“Ditch that dump” didn’t make it into Isola’s copy or the headline. Maybe that part of the URL was leftover from the last Daily News piece on what it’s like to live in the Bronx.

Video: Ainge Throws *Hiccup* Towel During Game

The highlight of the NBA playoffs happened last night in Cleveland during the Celtics-Cavaliers game.

Danny Ainge Video Of Towel Throwing To Distract Cavaliers Free Throw

(Paging Dr. Drew … Dr. Drew please report to Row 1, Seat 1 … )

From his seat behind the Cavaliers basket during the third quarter, Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge threw a towel in the air during a free throw attempt by Cleveland player J.J. Hickson in an apparent attempt to distract the shooter.

Before throwing the towel, Ainge also could be seen in the video standing up during another of Hickson’s free throws and turning around to talk to fans between shots.

No One Is Too Small For LeBron James To Belittle

One of the hardest parts of my job is trying to figure out the difference between sports marketing ploys and genuine sports news as it pertains to LeBron James. LeBron changing his number? Sports marketing. LeBron playing football? Sports marketing.

City Of Cleveland Shoots Down Lebron Billboard

Has the shine worn off LeBron James in Cleveland? From the latest development from Cleveland city leaders and Nike, it appears that’s a possibility.

Lebron James Downtown Cleveland Billboard Spiked By City Officials

The CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER reports today the Cleveland Planning Commission refused to approve a 10-story mural of James on a downtown building because it was “overt” advertising. Of course, that didn’t stop the same commission from approving a Nike billboard of the same size featuring James two years ago.

Why did Cleveland officials spike ‘Bron’s new massive downtown billboard?
