Myron Rolle is a Rhodes Scholarship Finalist. His Florida State teammate, Darius McClure, is definitely not. In fact, he’s not even going to be sharing the field with Rolle anymore, thanks to one of the worst-executed celebrations we’ve seen in college football in a long time.

Kids, this is what an idiot looks like when he tears his knee.
According to THE TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT, McClure suffered a season — and college career — ending knee injury late in Florida State’s loss to Boston College last Saturday. That would be sad story, except for the fact that McClure injured it celebrating an interception, leaping up to shoulder bump the significantly larger Toddrick Verdell (Toddrick? Really?) and landing wrong when he hit the turf. FSU isn’t announcing whether he tore his ACL or PCL, or if he just has significant cartilage damage, but whatever he did, McClure is definitely done.

Oklahoma State played like the second-best team in the nation this afternoon. There was one tiny problem, however, with Oklahoma State’s virtuoso performance, and that is that they were facing the best team, Texas. The Cowboys’ feisty resistance kept them in the game all day long, and Texas was only able to escape, 28-24, after a last-second Hail Mary fell harmlessly to the turf, batted down at the 10-yard line. Sure, superman WR Dez Bryant had gotten past the Texas secondary, but that’s mainly because the secondary was playing the ball, which was nowhere near Bryant when it came back down to earth. It was a gritty, gutty fight on both sides, though, certainly a better fight than (ahem) Oklahoma put up, and only the most careless of pollsters will drop Oklahoma State more than a spot or two for this loss.

Elsewhere in college football this afternoon… Read more…

BOSTON TEAMS WICKED HOT IN RULING THE SPORTS ROOST: There must be something in the chowder.
Many fans have the whites of their eyes set on Beacon Hill, as the Boston area currently rules the sports roost.First, you have Tom Brady seducing supermodels while leading the New England Patriots to a perfect NFL record. And the Red Sox are looking like a lock to clinch their 2nd World Series in four years.
Now the boys from Chestnut Hill are serving their notice in college football. Boston College remained undefeated with a Thursday night shocker over Virginia Tech, thanks to another #12 at QB.And if Ohio State slips up in Happy Valley on Saturday, the Eagles could see themselves at #1 come Monday.
PART MULE recently kicked out these photos of the Sawx rockin’ out after winning the ALCS. In a few more days, they could have the drinks flowing again. And don’t forget to give a toast to Randy Moss and Matt Ryan (unless he’s underage).

BC COVERS COACH’S LEWD CONDUCT WITH 19 YO PLAYER: This time yesterday, CSTV.com posted a press release from Boston College that said that the school’s women’s hockey coach, Tom Mutch, had resigned. It was strange news considering Mutch recently took the team to the Frozen Four - and the release offered no clues as to why he quit.
As part of the BC press release, AD Gene DeFilippo said “Tom Mutch brought our women’s ice hockey program to a new level and built a strong foundation for the future. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.“Really Gene? Do you still “wish him the best” now that the whole world is now reporting the truth (which you tried to cover up) about why Mutch is resigning?
Turns out that Mutch, 39, was caught receiving “sexually graphic” text messages from his 19-year-old freshman player (and leading scorer!) Kelli Stack (and I’m sure that’s all there was between the two).
