Unless you’ve been under a rock for the past week, you know that the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby is today. NBC will be bringing you the two hours of pageantry and buildup, followed by two minutes of heart-pounding action. You know, just like your weekend plans. But with horses.

That’s obviously a pedestrian perspective from someone without a firsthand account of the festivities. Everyone that’s actually been to the derby says it’s awesome…in its own way. Read more…

This baseball season will be the fifth for the Padres in San Diego’s plush Petco Park.

It will also be the fifth consecutive year that beer at the ballpark will be more expensive than the previous season. And that’s just the way baseball likes it.

The PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE reports on the effect a handy, new 10 percent tax on alcohol will have on local sports fans.

A 12-ounce beer at a Pens game was $5.25, but since the new county-wide tax kicked in, that beer is now $6.
But wait, that isn’t a 10 percent increase, it’s actually 14%.
