THE COLUMBIA (SC) STATE reports how defensive end Eric Norwood paid his respects during a post-game interview. Norwood had returned two fumble recoveries for TDs in last Thursday’s 38-23 win over 9th-ranked Kentucky. While Erin spoke with Eric, the SC band began playing the school’s alma mater song. As Andrews continued her questioning, Norwood gradually turned to face the band, causing the cameraman to follow.

As the song finished, Norwood raised his hand and gave a glass-less toast to the band, a long-held tradition featured at Gamecock events. The lineman said it was the right thing to do, noting that he saw coach Steve Spurrier interrupting a conversation to do the same.Norwood has been cheered by South Carolina supporters for his respectful move on national TV. He mentioned, “A couple people in Wal-Mart (told) me it was a good thing for Carolina alums.”
And Wal-Mart shoppers wouldn’t lie.
