Remember the old story about how Mike Piazza was drafted by the Dodgers in the 62nd round? Piazza’s father Vince was close friends with Tommy Lasorda, and the former Dodgers manager had the selection made as a favor to Senior Piazza.
Mike Piazza has since gone on to fame and glory in baseball, along with marrying a nudie model (nothing wrong with that). And we now know waaay too much about the financially-transacted sexual proclivities of Mr. Lasorda.

The Glendale City Council made it rain on Adrian Ross’ parade, as the former Cincinnati Bengal couldn’t get a liquor license to hold a Super Bowl party at the host city’s only strip club.
The ARIZONA REPUBLIC reports that Ross was hoping to get some NFL folks to show up at Pink Caberet for nine days of pregame partying. But the council denied his request to get a special-event liquor license for the nude club. Arizona state regulations don’t allow alcohol at full nudie bars.
Without the booze, the party appears to be a bust. Worst of all, it’s the children who’ll suffer.
The ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION reports that Atlanta attorney Wanda Jackson “withdrew her application for an arrest warrant against (Pacman) Jones, said Norris Arnold, a court support manager for Fulton County. Jackson had claimed the Tennesee Titans player “sucker punched” her at a northwest Atlanta strip club on Jan. 3.“
The AJC has no further details on Ms. Jackon’s action. We noted yesterday that Ms. Jackson’s complaint seemed rather dubious. And our suspicions turned out to be correct.
It is interesting to note that nowhere did we see or hear anyone else questioning Ms. Jackson’s claim (email us to links if we’re wrong). We imagine though there were plenty of you that probably thought what we thought.
Numerous media outlets report today that an Atlanta lawyer named Wanda Jackson is claiming to the police that Pacman Jones “sucker-punched” her in an Atlanta strip club on January 3.
Jones’ rap sheet is longer that Marv Albert’s fingernails (allegedly), but thanks to inconsistent reporting among media outlets, we find her complaint to police confusing, incomplete and possibly dubious (emphasize possibly, we’re not accusing her of anything yet).
Ms. Jackson, who is prominent enough for WSB-TV to have file footage of her, told WSB that she was in the strip club “working on a divorce case.”

BLOOMBERG reports that the troubled Tennessee Titan plans on entering a plea of “no contest” to charges stemming from last year’s Vegas strip-club shooting.In return, Jones will receive a one-year suspended sentence, meaning no time spent in the Clark County slammer. He’s scheduled to enter his plea this Friday.

Oh, and the athletes that visit them.New York-based Scores said that sports stars like Jeremy Shockey, Oscar De La Hoya and Dennis Rodman have frequented their establishments. When asked about their visits, all three declined comment.
Some dancers refer to athletes as “ATM’s”, for their penchant to spend, spend, spend. Jose Canseco claims to have seen players spend “more than $10,000 a night on lap dances, private rooms, champagne toasts and tequila.”

But ex-Piston and “Best Damn Sports Show” host John Salley points out how athletes with money are drawn to strips clubs: “Where do you take warriors? To church? No, you take them around a bunch of scantily dressed women who make them feel like stars.”
