Big East Coach To Notre Dame: Football Or GTFO

For the first time ever, it appears that Notre Dame may be serious about committing its football program to a major conference. Of course, the Irish are already full-fledged members of the hoops-centric Big East, save football. Now Notre Dame is reportedly considering the Big 10 as a landing spot for its entire sports program, including football.

With that news, UConn football coach Randy Edsall, who was reportedly a candidate for the Notre Dame football coaching position before Brian Kelly was hired, thinks it’s time for the Big East to demand that the Irish either commit fully to their present conference or cut ties completely with the Big East. ESPN: Mangino ‘Will Not Return’ As Kansas Coach

ESPN’s Joe Schad reports this afternoon that Kansas football coach Mark Mangino ‘will not return’ as coach next season.

If Mangino was not fired with cause, the school would owe him the balance of his contract, which is $6.6M. More likely, there was some sort of buyout settlement.

On November 20, I reported that Mangino’s reps were already in talks with University of Kansas officials over a possible buyout. At that time, Kansas assistant football coaches were already calling around to other schools asking about possible job opportunities.
