Memphis Gets In, But One Golden Ticket Remains

Memphis wrapped up the South regional earlier today with a beatdown of 2-seeded Texas, 85-67.

Davidson and Kansas are now duking it out for the fourth bid to San Antonio; Davidson is trailing only by two at the half. The first half had a slow start, but then both teams started to run, making shots on both ends, and Davidson is giving the Jayhawks all they can handle. Read more…

Davidson Students Will Be Pulling All-Nighters

While Memphis is taking care of Texas, let’s give some attention to the Cinderella team, 10th-seeded Davidson, who announced that they would be busing their student body to the regional games. For free.

Big Men Hansbrough, Love White Up The Night

It’s been a good year for all the No. 1 seeds, who automatically wear white jerseys as the higher seed in each game, but perhaps a banner year for Caucasian post players.

When the NCAA regional finals began last night, all four of the No. 1 seeds were still alive. And all the other games to date pale in comparison to the two performances in last night’s action.

NCAA Cinderella Studies As Well As The Big Boys

Davidson College is a nationally recognized and highly selective liberal arts college near Charlotte, NC, founded in 1837 by Presbyterians (Google Search). Both the town and college were named for Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, a Revolutionary War commander. (Wikipedia)

Sorry for all the pseudo-plagiarism; we’re just getting into the spirit of the college basketball student-athlete around here. Tenth-seeded Davidson shocked Georgetown this afternoon. The Hoyas were one of the teams that appeared in that new Jordan brand ad. No Cinderellas? The Wildcats beg to differ.

Siena’s Short Dream Run Might End Against ‘Nova

I don’t know why I didn’t think there were any games today. Probably because I’ve been stabbing my bracket with a red ball-point pen for the past two days.

Stanford, Poor Haircut, Advances To Sweet 16

An NCAA tournament game featuring a pair of twin sophomores (both seven feet tall), a head coach getting ejected in the first half, and one player on each team going for 30 points doesn’t need to go to overtime to be one of the most interesting games of the tournament.

New Rule The Scourge Of Thick-Ankled White Kids

The NCAA announced recently that it will move the three point line from 19 feet, 9 inches to 20 feet, 9 inches for next season.

Bad idea.

Three Point Shot

(Rule to have no effect on Kristy, though)

The NCAA is apparently unaware that what makes the NCAA tournament such a draw to the gambler casual fan is the absolute unpredictability of the tournament. So won’t the new distance somewhat blunt the volatility of game results? Read more…
