Yesterday a commercial from Nike was released featuring audio from the late father of Tiger Woods, Earl. In the spot, Earl said:
“Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. Did you learn anything?”
The only visual we get during Earl’s comments is a stoic image of Tiger.
I’ve since found the origin of the audio, and its context. Read more…
Quote from Kultida Woods reported today by S.L. Price of Golf.com in a story completely unrelated to Tiger Woods Nike ad featuring his late father Earl Woods:
A decade ago in the Southern California winter Tida Woods sat outside the clubhouse at La Costa, grinning as she gave a tougher, less starry-eyed view of child rearing than Earl’s. “You will never, never ruin my reputation as a parent,” she said she always told young Tiger, “because I will beat you.”
They’d be lined up outside Nevada Bob’s if that’d made the final cut.
How desperate is Nike and Tiger get back into your pocket? They’ll exhume Tiger’s dead dad Earl Woods to help restore six-iron sales.
(Gee, I’d forgotten Earl said that. Thanks Nike!)
Thank goodness 99.9% of the people who will watch the :30 spot have no idea that in 1997 Tiger effectively traded in his relationship with his father for the honorable pursuit of selling golf bags.
(Tiger putter apparently getting a lot more use)
In a recently published piece, celebrated golf writer Jaime Diaz of GOLF DIGEST has the most credible account of the life of Tiger Woods since his Thanksgiving accident. Why? It appears that some of the previously unreported information cited by Diaz came from the mother of the golfer, Kultida Woods.
Last year as part of a GOLF DIGEST profile of Kultida, Diaz traveled with her to her native Thailand as part of what turned out to be the definitive portrait of mother Woods.
(Golf Digest’s Diaz also profiled Tiger’s Mom in May, 2009, from Thailand)
In his latest Golf Digest effort posted on the web last week, Diaz reports scads of new, intimate details about Tiger Woods’ ordeal. Most importantly, the story includes new on-the-record quotes from Kultida. That access may have happened because of the relationship forged during the Golf Digest profile by Diaz on Kultida.
Kultida Woods met with reporters assembled for Tiger Woods‘ speech on Friday and excoriated the media for treating her son like a “criminal“:
I am upset the way media treated him like he’s a criminal. He didn’t kill anybody, he didn’t do anything illegal. They’ve been carrying on from Thanksgiving until now, that’s not right!
On December 11, the NEW YORK POST reported the following:
Michelle Braun said she sent at least four escorts on pay-for-sex dates with the randy Woods a total of “six times” from late 2006 and 2007, charging him a total of $60,000.
“The most was for a girl in Manhattan” — whose name is Loredana, Braun said. “He paid $15,000 for her.”
Some of those trysts involved Woods hiring two prostitutes for one encounter, according to Braun, who said Woods would call her on the phone to order up the female company.
“He liked girl-on-girl,” Braun said. “He had sex with them together.”
Woods has also been linked to adult film performers Joslyn James and Holly Sampson. Additionally, alleged prostitute Cori Rist has claimed a relationship with Woods.
