After Multi-DUIs Stabler Launches New Wine Label

Following three DUI arrests and a run-in with the IRS in recent years, the last couple months Ken Stabler has set out on a new, high-profile business venture.

The former Alabama and NFL quarterback is now selling his own brand of wine.

Bob Carlton of the BIRMINGHAM NEWS reported of Stabler’s new booze biz in January:

Stabler’s wine has a suggested retail price of $11.99 a bottle, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the XOXO Stabler Foundation, which supports such charities as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Mulherin Custodial Home for special-needs children in Mobile, and Mobile’s Camp Rap-A-Hope, a summer camp for children with cancer.

Stabler was unsure how much of his wine sales will go to the charities.

“It matters just the fact that you are giving,” he said. “It’s not a matter of how much you give. We will give as much as we possibly can.”

Stabler, who has done numerous wine tastings at restaurant and grocery locations in recent weeks around the state of Alabama, said of his decision to sell alcohol in light of his DUI arrests:

The 65-year-old, silver-haired Stabler said Friday he has no concerns about marketing an alcoholic beverage with his name, number and legacy attached to it.

“No, not at all,” he said. “It’s all about our foundation. It’s all about celebrating those teams.

“I didn’t ship a thousand cases in here to drink,” he added.

Stabler was arrested for DUI in 1995, 2001 and 2008. During his most recent arrest, he admitted to the presiding officer that he’d been drinking and was caught driving without a license. Read more…
