Video: Peewee Coach Lands Nuclear Sucker Punch

Like you, I was just thinking that it’d been too long since a parents-and-players brawl broke out on video at a Houston-area pee wee football game, so I’m happy to report that the good folks in Pearland, Texas, obliged two weeks ago.

Kristi Nix of the PEARLAND (TX) JOURNAL has a description of what happened between coaches and 11-year-old players of the Bay Area Youth Football League, though Rucks Russell of KHOU-TV in Houston reports many of the details of the events leading up to the brawl are in dispute.

Regardless of what caused the altercation, there’s no disputing the aftermath. From Nix:

Bay Area Football League officials say the Patriots coach resigned and is now suspended from the league for life. Several other Hurricanes coaches were thrown out for the rest of the season.

Both teams were banned from post-season play.

Coaches from both sides appealed the ruling. League officials, however, refused to relent and sanctions against both teams still stand.

Pearland Police officials say no arrest were made at the game. And, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

The people who run the pee wee league are actually meeting Wednesday night to finalize the suspensions and decision to ban the two teams from the league playoffs this season. The latter has parents of players on both teams upset and demanding that the league lift the playoff ban. Read more…
