Buzz Bissinger is the hot topic of the sports blogosphere right now, thanks to his livid lashing out at Will Leitch during the latest episode of HBO’s “Costas Now”. And now the author of “Friday Night Lights” tries to explain his tormenting tirade.
Bissinger appeared on Dan Le Batard’s radio show on Thursday to discuss his demonstrative attack on Deadspin & other sports blogs.

Dan Le Batard interviewed ESPN NBA analyst Tim Legler on WAXY-AM in Miami this week (audio starts at 5:36), and asked him, “What one thing would you change that bothers you about the (sports) media?”
Legler’s response: “The thing that bothers me the most is what has become a very blurred line between a journalist and ex-players as analysts - people that actually played the game.”
(*Mystery*: A “writer” spouting “inaccurate” analysis who “isn’t qualified”?)
“That’s not to say that everybody that’s an analyst who was an ex-player is good at this job, because we both know there’s a lot of guys out there that probably shouldn’t be on TV or radio.“
“But more and more journalists (sportswriters) now cross over into doing real, hard analysis and trying to get into what’s going on on the court and what should go on on the court and a lot of times, I just don’t think a lot of (those) people are qualified to do that.“

Earlier this week, Dan Le Batard interviewed highly-respected Yahoo Sports NFL writer Jason Cole on his WAXY-AM radio show. It was a throwaway “we have to talk about the NFL during Draft week“ segment until Cole said something in passing that we found very interesting, and a little shocking.
Cole was asked by Le Batard: “The Michigan Wolverines seem to have a running back, a wide receiver, a quarterback and a left tackle who are going to be drafted pretty high. So why did they stink on offense?” Read more…

THE DAILY PULP reports that Dan Le Batard of the MIAMI HERALD won’t be of the MIAMI HERALD for one year starting May 15th as he takes a leave of absence. His outside work as a radio host (picking fights and having fights picked for him), ESPN personality, and South Beach bon vivant has now become his ‘only’ work for a year.

We have some sense that we’re supposed to take the obligatory pot shot here at Le Batard, but we find him intelligent and rather charming. Also, we are rather familiar with the notion of juggling multiple jobs. If he has the means and the HERALD doesn’t mind, vaya con Dios, Dan.
However, don’t let your editor tell us you “still hope to write occasionally, a la Dave Barry“. Dan, babe, we like your writing well enough, but don’t let him compare you to Dave Barry.
Good to see Kyle Turley is still his same ol’ fiery self. The ex-Saint, ex-Ram & ex-Chief best known for his Jets helmet toss was on Dan Le Batard’s radio show on Wednesday, talking about the problems many former NFL players are having trying to get disability benefits.
Joining Turley in the discussion was ex-Viking Robert Smith, putting the point forward for the NFL Players’ Association. And what started out as a calm debate eventually turned a bit nasty.
