ABA “BULLIES” PROTEST IN SYRACUSE IS BULL—-: The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports that the ABA plans to add a team in Syracuse, NY., this season called the Bullies.

Once the team named was announced, WSYR-TV unloaded with both barrels on team owner Nicholas Fritts, a man who is trying to liven things up during the winter in an otherwise dead town (I’ve been there many times to broadcast hockey and baseball, I know of what I speak).

WSYR-TV unleashes full-team coverage on the matter of naming the team “Bullies” (which features a bull logo and has nothing to do with forcibly taking milk money), reporting that when local “anti-bullying advocates” first heard of the name, they were outraged.

Gee, I wonder how those *advocates* found out about the name? Surely WSYR reporters didn’t call them and inform them of the news in attempt to manufacture a story that wasn’t there? Nah, small market TV stations with nothing else to report would never do that.
Now the entire main media has picked up the story, reporting it as if Syracuse citizens are ready to riot in the streets over a minor league team’s moniker.
But in an *ironic* twist, locals doesn’t seem too unhappy about the team name. In fact, based on the WSYR-TV’s forum area designated for the team, no one seems to care either way.
Moral: Next time you’re thinking about using a little creativity to start a team in the land that time forgot, forget it.
