After I graduated from college and entered the real world, there was a rude awakening when I realized that I had grossly underestimated the need for information on 80-year old football coaches that wear four-inch thick glasses. Students at Penn State will not have the same problem.
Starting this fall, the university will offer a course specifically based on their legendary football coach called “Joe Paterno: Communications and the Media” taking a look at how the coach uses the media to promote the program. It got us thinking of what other school’s could employ similar courses
At Duke, nerds would be camping out in front of the registration building to sign up for a class on their coach’s life philosophy “Coach K: Arming people for life”. That class would be a pre-requisite for the follow up, “Coach K: Arming assistant coaches for NCAA violations”.
Speaking of Duke assistants, Mizzou could get major turnout for “Quin Snyder: How to go from hot coaching prospect to scorn of the school in under one year”.
Alabama would be wise to take advantage of their new head coach with “Nick Saban: Clapping 101” while LSU would have a similar course for students wrestling with their feelings towards their former hero, “How to deal with irrational hatred through non-violent means”
Notre Dame could offer numerous courses - “Charlie Weis: Tips for Concealing your Man Jugs”, “Tyrone Willingham: Maximizing your Severance Pay” and “George O’Leary: Falsifying Resumes 101″.
Really, the possibilities are endless. I guarantee Coach K would sign up for the class about himself.
