Stephen A. Smith is filling in middays this week on ESPN Radio’s affiliate in Philadelpha, as he noted on Twitter today.
(Can Stephen A. Draw An Audience Without ESPN Distribution?)
He also pointed out that he’ll have news on his full-time career plans “in days.”
Career crossroads time for Smith, who wasn’t able to establish an audience despite the second-to-none vehicle that is ESPN-TV and ESPN Radio. If he’s going to remain a nationally-known personality, the success of this next gig, which I’m assuming is national in scope, will be critical to the future of his career.
If this next venture fails, I’m guessing he’ll be a local Philly on-air personality for the balance of his media career. Not there’s anything wrong with that.

Whatever his next gig is, he’ll fail at it. Because he’s terrible.

@Chucky: ESPN radio is now both 97.5 FM AND 950 AM in Philly.

If people in the new york / philly area cant stand this guy, why would he think his act could work on a national level.

I think Steve will do as good a job as Colin does.

why is he terrible? because he is black and has a voice. you white people want black people to stay in their place and not say anything. people in ny/philly who listen to talk radio are probably 95 % white anyway. put stephen with francesa. you talk about ratings increasing with mike already killing espn new york anyway. all of you clowns would tune in

It has nothing to do with him being Black, it has to do with the fact that he is a blow-hard who is ill informed, has very poor diction and brutalizes the King’s English. He knows that taking the position on Rush will give him attention. I am from Philly and have had to suffer his nonsense for years while he was working for the Inquirer. He has managed to get fired from there, ESPN, and so what is he bringing to the table? He is getting a favor from a friend in Philly, Mike Missanelli, who actually worked for Stephen A. when he had his ESPN Radio show, and who now has the highest rated show in Philly.

Brooks, i hope you got a lawyer. you are listed as a source on daylife for the BOGUS RUSH QUOTES.
Better MAN UP and recant and repent.
