LAST 3 SI COVERS COVETING WICKED-HOT BOSTON TEAMS: East Coast Bias strikes again!
Since we’re on the subject of SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, we’ve discovered that the magazine has featured Boston-area teams emblazoned on their cover for the past 3 weeks. For the latest issue, dated Nov. 5, the Red Sox are shown celebrating their 2nd World Series trophy in 4 years. In the previous week, three Celtics stars bounced in for SI’s NBA preview. And the week before that, Tom Brady was in a perfect pose to recognize the Pats’ win over Dallas.
If #2 Boston College beats Florida State this Saturday to remain undefeated, don’t be surprised if next week’s issue features Eagles QB Matt Ryan. And the last non-New Englander to hit the front page? The Rockies’ Jeff Francis. Discussing the pitcher’s appearance, teammate Matt Holliday had said, “Jeff’s from Canada, so he doesn’t know about the Sports Illustrated jinx.”
Well, somebody must have told Jeff about it, since he and the Rox was swept right out the Series.SI Cover Jinx? Apparently not applicable in Massachusetts.
