SPORTS BUSINESS DAILY reports last night the MLB Giants hosted "The Big Game @ Pac Bell Park," a promotion "centered on the 111-year-old Bay Area college football rivalry between Cal and Stanford."
The coolest part of the promo: Before the game, Sony selected one representative from each school to participate in a home run derby played on 989 Sports’ "MLB 2004" video game - which was shown on Pac Bell Park’s Jumbotron.
The Stanford representative played alongside Giants outfielder & Stanford alum Jeffrey Hammonds, while the Cal rep was joined by Padres outfielder & Cal alum Xavier Nady. The winner received a PlayStation 2 console and a copy of the game.
The WASHINGTON POST gets this postgame comment from Virginia’s Marquis Weeks, moments after his 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown last week against North Carolina. "That was just instinct. Kind of like running from the cops.":
