Interesting to note in the aftermath of the campus brawls between players from the Kansas basketball and football teams, hoops coach Bill Self has been extremely contrite, while football coach Mark Mangino has been nothing of the sort.
(Sadly. Self will be allowed to sweep everything under
his the rug)
The KANSAS CITY STAR reports late Thursday that three KU hoops players, Tyshawn Taylor, Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich, were made by Self to “explain themselves to reporters.” Of course, nothing worthy of note came out of those explanation, but I’ve got it on very good authority who the true antagonists were.
A source told me this morning that the KU basketball team was indeed behind the brawl, with Taylor, Collins and and twins Marcus and Markieff Morris among the instigators in the conflict. So it’s no wonder Self has been so publicly apologetic, while Mangino has said basically nothing.
From what I heard, the KU football coaches are 100% in support of their players and plan zero discipline.
So the next question is, has Self lost control of the team? My source said no, and that the punishment the coach has in store will be severe.
Finally, if Kansas is a public university, why no public disclosure on what happened? We’re not talking about minors here, and the school is funded by taxpayer dollars.
Sadly, this looks like another case of a coach (Self) at a large public institution being allowed to sweep player indiscretions under the rug.
