The Supersonics can now move to Oklahoma Sooner than later, as a settlement has been reached with the city of Seattle.
The SEATTLE TIMES reports that city officials have reached an agreement with the NBA club over a lawsuit cocnering the team’s current lease with KeyArena. The city was suing the Sonics to force them to finish out the final two years of the lease, meaning the team would have to play two more years in Seattle.
But the Times says that the deal is done, as Seattle Deputy Mayor Tim Ceis and City Attorney Tom Carr have briefed other city council members about the agreed-upon settlement.
The news arrives just a few hours before federal judge Marsha Pechman was scheduled to make her ruling on the lawsuit. The official word is scheduled to come during an official press conference at 5 p.m. PST.
However, this doesn’t mean the end of the Sonics’ legal woes. Former owner Howard Schultz is still suing over breach of contract for the planned move of his ex-team. And Oklahoma City officials may break out a lawsuit of their own if the Sonics don’t come to town.
But through this whole Supersonic-level mess, we know who the real winners are - the attorneys & their high-priced hourly rates.
*UPDATE*: Cost to Clay Bennett to skedaddle from Seattle - $75 million.

And I am officially done with the NBA. Screw you David Stern. May you rot in hell along with your boyfriend Clay Bennett.

That’s gross, Commish Stern and Bennett are gay. No wonder incensed Sonics fans call him Gay Bennett. I’ll bet that the cumulative amount of teeth in Oklahoma (24) will oust the franchise’s win total (22) by the slimmest of margins. Screw you OKC.
