One would think that Kareem Abdul Jabbar answering a “Jeopardy” question about himself would be, excuse the expression, a slam dunk. Well, um … . Abdul-Jabbar was on Thursday’s episode of “Jeopardy,” where a full category was dedicated to his alma mater, UCLA. Kind of unfair to fellow contestants Soledad and Michael there, but OK.
And to make matters even more interesting, Kareem’s first question also involved the movie “Airplane!”, in which he played prickly co-pilot Roger Murdock. Surely he couldn’t get this one wrong.
He could. And please don’t call me Shirley.
Video following the jump.
And on the day after John Wooden’s 99th birthday! (Wooden, watching at home, slaps forehead in disgust).
The “Airplane!” line in question is below. Scene begins at the 5:30 mark on the video.
“I think you’re the greatest, but my dad says you don’t work hard enough on defense.” Ha.

Hey, cut the man some slack….I don’t know the exact years, but I’m rather sure that Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton played at UCLA quite some different eras…..May not have met each other ’till NBA….besides, it was nearly worded as a trick question.
BTW, Thanks for posting the link to the movie….Hadn’t seen it in years, It’s still a sceam,…..

Well, I guess you and/or YouTube got hit by a Copyright Claim by Paramount…..
Got to watch most of a screamer of one of the originals of a genre of dead-pan parody humor flicks, like Leslie Nielson and Ms.Presley’s “Loaded Weapon” series that also had OJ Simpson in it; much a poke at Mel Gibson and Danny Glover’s “Lethal Weapon” series……(My understanding, is Yes there was a significant relation to Elvis)
If you are a fan of this kind of humor, you’ve got to rent “Mafia”, a film dedicated to Lloyd Bridges, originally the star of the 60’s TV series, “Sea Hunt”, as that was the last film he made…..Story of a coupla kids in poverty-stricken post-War Italy that become friends, emigrate to US separately, fall in love, and start a Family Mafia Clan……after a killing, the rest of the Family, under vow is each assigned a “Revenge Killing”….how each plans and does it is an absolute crack-up…..Surprise new star of this type of tongue-in-cheek humor ???? Olympia Dukakis, as in “Terms of Endearment”, if you can believe it……

I think you’re thinking of “Naked Gun”, not “Loaded Weapon”. “Loaded Weapon” had Samuel L. Jackson, Emilio Estevez and William Shatner. “Naked Gun” starred Leslie Nielson, Priscilla Presley (Elivis’s Ex Wife), and O.J. Simpson. “Naked Gun”, by the way had 2 sequels. “Loaded Weapon” tanked at the box office, as does everything Shatner does that doesn’t involve Star Trek.

Hey, Joe….
You’re absolutely right….thanks for jogging my memory, but again, if you haven’t seen it, “Mafia”, released just after Lloyd Bridges passed away, gotta be 10-15 years ago, is a pisser…..
PS: Agree on Shatner, too….but I’ll betcha he gets paid lots for those idiotic “Priceline.com” commercials….
PPS: At another time, on an appropriate post, I’ll tell the true story of the OJ Circus…..at least some will get a laugh out of it…
