American fans can be pretty devoted, but there are times when you get the feeling that we can’t hold a candle to our brethren across the pond. A study from the British website MY CELEBRITY FASHION, as linked via FOOTBALL SHIRT CULTURE, claims that British men are significantly more turned on by seeing their girlfriends/wives show up for sex wearing their favorite team’s jersey, as opposed to skimpy lingerie or, more shockingly, nothing at all.

It may seem absurd, but the Brits could be on to something, provided that you’re able to take some creative license with the aforementioned jerseys. Take the lovely lass above, for example. We have absolutely no ties to the Ukraine, but she sure makes us want to find one.

The numbers are pretty convincing.

Scotland: 48% preferred women to wear nothing in bed
North East: 49% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
North West: 53% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
Midlands: 46% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
East England: 42% preferred women to wear sexy lingerie in bed
West England: 51% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
South West: 42% preferred women to wear rugby shirts in bed
South East: 39% preferred women to wear sexy lingerie in bed
Wales: 51% preferred women to wear rugby shirts in bed.

Still, it’s hard to believe that, for Americans, cut up unis could beat straight nudity. Would Yankee fans rather see their girlfriends in pinstripes as opposed to nothing? We think not. Derek Jeter certainly wouldn’t.

Then again, under the right circumstances a jersey might be the perfect attire. Take the U.S. National Team jersey above, for instance. That’s clearly a much better use of it than putting it on your back while walking down the street. In fact, it’s probably a better use for it than a good handful of the players who wear it on the pitch, too.

And of course, we also need to consider the source. Even the woman who commissioned the study, Jill Tovey, found the results a bit disappointing:

“I think women everywhere always had a sneaking suspicion that blokes like their football or rugby team more than they should but to find out that they find women more attractive in bed when they are wearing a football or rugby top is maybe taking it a little too far Not only do the results strike a blow for women’s wardrobes it also causes us at MyCelebrityFashion a huge headache as we don’t stock any football related sporting wear and have no plans to do so in the immediate future”.
