Shaq Asks Of Kareem & Wilt: Where’s The Love?

It’s going to be fun Wednesday night, when Shaq’s first game under the Suns will be a showdown against his old teammates from Tinseltown. And the Big Cactus had some prickly words for a couple of Lakers greats.

The LOS ANGELES TIMES reports that O’Neal had nothing but kind comments for the current edition of the Lake Show on Tuesday - calling Kobe Bryantthe best player in the league” and flattering Phil Jackson a “jokester.” So, who did he go after?

Shaquille O'Neal Kareem Abdul Jabbar Wilt Chamberlain

Would you believe Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain?

Shaq Diesel laments that what he had was a failure to communicate with the former L.A. centers:

I’ve probably only spoken two times to Mr. Kareem and once to Mr. Chamberlain. Coming in there, playing under (them), I wanted at least to be on the same page …. It was vital that I make a name for myself in that organization. Why they don’t talk to me, I don’t know. I don’t have any hard feelings for them.”

Kareem seemed to be thrown off by Shaq’s accusations of getting the cold shoulder:

I’ve had nothing but respect for him the whole time I’ve known him. I’m surprised he took some sort of offense. I remember he was out there one game and he made a hook shot and he pointed to me in the crowd. I think he’s the best center of his generation.”

Meanwhile, Wilt the Stilt couldn’t be reached for comment, as he’s been dead since 1999.

El Grande Saguaro (that’s “Big Cactus” en espanol) is also growing tired of concern that he’ll slow down the Suns’ high-tempo offense:

A lot of people think I can’t run. My thing was, I’m not going to be running if you’re not going to throw it. I know (Steve) Nash will throw it. If I get a chance to get some high-percentage shots, I’ll take those shots, but I’m not looking to disrupt anything.”

I don’t have to come in and try to take over. Those guys are going to do what they are doing. I’m more like a senior advisor.”

The Rock WWE Know Your Role

Good to hear that Shaq knows his role. Does this mean we can start calling him the Big Jabroni?

At comparable ages Shaq couldn’t carry Kareem’s jock, lest he forget Kareem was finals MVP in ‘85 at 38!
