Someone must have it in for Hole #3 at the Torrey Pines golf course.
(Can you spot the swear? We can’t)
The SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE tees up news that for the second time this month, vandals had left a not-so-nice message with the host of June’s U.S. Open.
Officials arriving at the third green on Sunday discovered that “a two-word vulgarity was etched in the sand of one bunker, and that several sprinkler heads were broken off.”
The new naughtiness follows a similar attack last month, when someone used the hole’s flagpole to “scrape an obscenity into the green’s surface”.
Torrey Pines is normally a public course with easy access to the holes. But because of these impolite incidents, the course is beginning to resemble Stalag 13:
By the early afternoon, workers were laying out sections of chain link fencing that was going to go up near the third green, and a portable set of lights had been transported to the hole.
And for added extra security, the USGA has enlisted the services of this man:
So he’s got that going for him, which is nice.
