Russia Looking For Summer Olympics In St. Petersburg

RUSSKIES ENVISION 2020 OLY GAMES IN ST. PETERSBURG: Hoping that lightning strikes twice, city officials in St. Petersburg are bidding for Russia’s second city to host the 2020 Summer Olympics:

St. Petersburg 20/20

St. Pete’s optimism is buoyed by their country’s awarding of the 2014 Winter Olympics, which will take place in the Black Sea resort town of Sochi.

The last time Russia hosted the summer games was in Moscow during the good ol’ CCCP days in 1980. The United States and other numerous nations boycotted the event, in response to the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan the year before.

But as long as the bidding group doesn’t take the IOC reps to a Devil Rays game, they might have a chance.

Oops! Wrong St. Petersburg.
