Report: Brand Has Verbal Agreement With 76ers

Adrian Wojnarowski of YAHOO SPORTS reported earlier today that, “In an improbable turn, Elton Brand is leaning toward accepting a five-year, approximately $80 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, multiple league sources said Tuesday afternoon.

Now the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS is reporting, via Phil Jasner,The Sixers have reached a verbal agreement with Los Angeles Clippers free-agent center Elton Brand.”

Marc Stein of ESPN.com is also confirming the move, which ESPN’s Ric Bucher said earlier today on SportsCenter probably wouldn’t happen.

If Brand is indeed going to Philly, I’m guessing David Falk was primarily behind the move, as I wrote last Friday. But that’s not to absolve Brand’s involvement in the decision, which was ultimately his and his alone. And after saying repeatedly that he genuinely wanted to stay with the Clips (and Baron Davis), it appears he’s not the man he claimed to be.
