Joe Schad reports this afternoon on Twitter and ESPN-TV that contract settlement discussions are underway between Texas Tech and reps for Mike Leach. Schad also noted a 10-day “cure period” that Leach’s reps will claim will entitle the coach to an $800,000 “retention bonus” that is contractually due him tomorrow.
Bruce Feldman of ESPN reports that he spoke to Leach earlier today. Feldman said that the coach today, “realized Tech was just looking for a reason to get rid of him and that this is a relationship that couldn’t be salvaged.”
Feldman also said that Leach and his reps are “trying to get what they think are owed in the contract. It’s not about getting his job back.”
KCBD-TV also has video reax from Leach’s attorney Ted Liggett after he was handed a termination letter by Texas Tech general counsel Pat Campbell.

Outside of some TT students/fans/alumni does anyone really give a damn if the coach of TEXAS TECH is getting fired? Must be a really slow news day!

ECF….I fall into none of those that you mentioned….and I am very interested in this topic. You might be surprised that a lot of people are. If you have watched any TV the past few days it appears that most if not all sports programs are spending a great deal of time on this…So someone else must think it’s news worthy! Oh..since you think it is something for a slow news day, then maybe you should suggest what SBB should be covering. Your location and name pretty much explain your comments anyway….what a loser!
