Report: Weis Fired As Notre Dame Head Coach

UPDATE: Firing is official. If the Irish play in a bowl game, ND receivers coach Rob Ianello will serve as acting head coach.

Rich Cimini and Dick Weiss of the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS report:

Charlie Weis

Charlie Weis is out as Notre Dame head football coach, a source close to the program told the Daily News.

The report adds that if Notre Dame players vote to go to a bowl game, “it is unlikely Weis will coach the team in that game.

Weis didn’t endear himself to the media on his way out, blowing off halftime and postgame interviews, along with cleaning out his desk before he traveled to ND’s last road game.

Charlie Weis blows off media after Stanford loss

That gives us a little insight into the character of the man who crowed in his opening press conference to the media four years ago that, “6-5 isn’t good enough“.

The Irish this season? 6-6.

Officially time to start speculating, next Chiefs O-coordinator? I like it better than not having one.

whomever they hire wont do any better….ND needs to stop living in the past.

Finally, a post about sport. No more Tiger posts until there’s actually something interesting, please.

I don’t understand, did Charlie Weis have an affair with Tiger Woods?

@Tyrone, you nailed it. The SansaBelt wearing, morbidly obese who’ve been drinking the ND kool-aid for all 60 yrs of their sad lives need to realize it’s not a glamour school anymore - guys want to go where it’s warm, where the co-eds weigh under 150lbs. And the guys who grade the recruiting classes need to start being honest about ND’s crops. They claim they get fast blue chippers - but when you see them against speed schools they are left in the dust. Sorry if the Truth hurts, domers.

Vote for a bowl game. Why don’t the players vote for a record of 12-0?

    Dear Rich Rod,

Please note: He had a winning record, at least.

I hope the University spent a portion of my “donation” to keep my football tickets where they are wisely by purchasing a cabinet to keep the resumes of other qualified applicants.

Not saying Weis shouldn’t have been fired. Just saying the media was a little rough on the guy.

Here’s a piece I wrote on the contrasting paths of Charlie Weis and Tim Tebow.
