YOUNG RAIDERS COACH KIFFIN MISTAKEN FOR BALL BOY: As the Raiders trudge along in what’s sure to be another memorable season, the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS passes along this anecdote for the ages:
Fox NFL Sunday host Curt Menefee was making the rounds during a training camp tour last month, when he stumbled upon the Silver & Black’s sessions.
As the offense practiced the two-minute drill, Menefee remembers watching a ball boy re-place the ball after each play. Suddenly, to Curt’s surprise, the ball boy turned and started screaming at the QB.
“I’m like, ‘Why is the ball boy yelling at the quarterback? What I didn’t realize is it wasn’t the ball boy; it was the head coach.”
Such as it is when you’re 32-year-old Lane Kiffin, the new sheriff in Oaktown. In a profession populated by 50- to 60-year-olds, Kiffin definitely gives new meaning to the Raiders’ mantra, “Just win, *baby*“.
