Scott Brown of the PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW has yet another piece on the lengths the New England Patriots NFL teams will go to piece together a personality profile of a prospective player.
Still, nothing could have prepared the Tennessee linebacker, a projected first- or second-round pick in next weekend’s NFL Draft, for the question that one team asked.
“They said ‘When’s the last time you cheated on your girlfriend?’ “ Mayo said. “They didn’t even ask me, ‘Did you cheat on your girlfriend?’ I told them I didn’t cheat on my girlfriend.”
That’s actually a great question if you want to be able to tell if someone is going to become a true, blue NFL star.
We’ve covered every major sports (including the NFL) for the past 16 years, and can tell you with full confidence that 95% of your pro sports superstars are unrelenting narcissists. Thus, you can expect that same percentage to stray outside relationships.
Since Mayo said he doesn’t cheat, we’ve got him pegged as a special teams lifer - at best.
We assume that teams don’t go nearly as far when interviewing coaches. Thank goodness that’s the case, Patriots fans.
