Ill. Pilot Lands Plane On Golf Course - On Purpose

The CHICAGO DAILY HERALD flies over news of a small plane that recently made a landing on a suburban golf course. But the real story is the pilot did the touch-down on purpose.

Tiger Woods Piper Clipper airplane

Last Saturday, Robert Kadera brought his Piper PA-16 Clipper down onto the 7th fairway of the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. After receiving numerous 911 calls, police arrived at the course, where they found Kadera & his 14-year-old son standing by the plane.

Why did he do it? Was it a prank? Was he trying to make some sort of statement?

In a way. Kadera said he was trying to get his son to tennis practice on time, and as he explained, “Traffic on Saturday is really bad.”

So he decided to hit the skies instead of the roads: “The golf course had plenty of room to land right across the street from the tennis courts so we thought it would work for us.”

Luckily, no one was playing on the course at the time - since the greens were covered white with snow. And Kadera admits he probably should have gotten permission to land at the resort - not that he would’ve gotten it.

Police & the FAA are still trying to figure out what charges will be made. But Kadera’s escapade turned out to be all for naught, as his kid never did make practice.

Maybe a carpool would help. Or a new alarm clock to wake up earlier and beat the traffic.
