Things are finally looking up for Kyle Kendrick. You may remember the Phillies pitcher as the victim of a team-wide prank where he was told he was being traded to Japan. And also you might recall how Kendrick admitted to being a big Backstreet Boys fan. Well, it’s all turning around for Kyle now, buddy boy!
Okay, so Kendrick is currently stuck in Triple-A, pitching for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. But he only gave up five hits in his last start last Thursday in a win against the Rochester Red Wings. But more importantly, Kyle’s about to become an honest man, as he’s getting ready to marry ex-”Survivor” contestant Stephenie La Grossa.
The ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL reports that the couple recently became engaged during a trip to Atlantic City, and plan on tying the knot in November 2010. While Kyle may be nervous about the proceedings, it’s nothing new to Stephenie - she married her longtime boyfriend back in 2006, but divorced the following year.
So, what about Kyle’s tuxedo jersey seen at the top of this post? Was he planning on eloping with Stephenie after the game? Not really. THE 700 LEVEL explains that Kendrick & his IronPigs teammates took part in a pre-game wedding ceremony, decked out in the unusual uniforms for the special occasion.
Pretty snazzy, eh? At least SportsCenter thought they were.
Anyway, good luck to Kyle & Stephenie. Hopefully Kendrick won’t pull a Richard Jefferson. And at the very least, Kyle should invite his IronPigs pals to the rehearsal dinner - he wouldn’t want to be so callous toward his minor league teammates like other MLB players.
