THE WIND BENEATH MICKELSON’S WINGED FEET: Kevin Modesti of the LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS reports that Phil Mickelson has been commuting in a private plane from his Rancho Santa Fe, CA., home to the Los Angeles-area Nissan Open this week.
The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports that because of Phil’s flyover, he reaches his home in Rancho Santa Fe (110 miles in one hour) after a round this week at Riviera faster than his caddy reaches his Los Angeles-area hotel (15 miles in two hours (!)).
Ironically, Mickelson is not using his own Gulfstream jet, instead renting a much smaller Cessna (pilot standard, peanuts optional), for the daily trips.
Lefty probably made the move after learning that the Cessna is not subject to FAA passenger weight restrictions (and I’m not talking about bags).
