PENN STATE FANS REST EASY - JOEPA’S STILL AN A–HOLE: You think you had a crappy weekend? Well we’re here to tell you it could’ve been worse. How’s covering Penn State football media day last Saturday grab you?
Dave Seamon drew the short straw at Wilkes-Barre’s CitizensVoice.com and soon was soon lovingly transcribing the wit and wisdom of college football’s version of depleted plutonium: Joe Paterno.• When a young reporter presumed senior Austin Scott would be the starting tailback, Paterno interrupted: “That’s a lousy question. I just didn’t like the tone of your question.”
• When asked about safety Anthony Scirrotto and defensive tackle Chris Baker and possible disciplinary action against them for their alleged roles in a fight at a State College apartment in the spring, Paterno said: “Do YOU know what’s going to happen to Scrirroto and Baker?”• When there was a lull in the conference early on, Paterno turned to Penn State spokesman Jeff Nelson and said: “Anybody else, or can we go home?”
• Regarding scheduling conflicts with final exams and two-a-day practices, Paterno said: “I wasn’t gonna have a media day.“We suppose it could’ve been worse. You could always be sponge bathing Paterno at the State College skilled nursing facility after he gets steamrolled by Florida International’s backup punter Sept. 1.
