Perhaps Chris Mortensen is still sore from being burned by BFF Brett Favre, and has decided to attach himself to a malevolent force instead of one that’s just ignorant, but Mort seems to have the inside news from New England an awful lot these days. The latest scoop from Foxborough has the Pats’ video department saving DT Vince Wilfork from an unpaid vacation.
Wilfork was fined $35,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Jay Cutler two weeks ago. Due to “a history of illegal hits” (how’d you like to have that on your resume?), Roger Goodell was set to suspend Wilfork. But he forgot the old adage that behind every man is a good woman and a CIA-style surveillance unit.
Wilfork’s wife Bianca, who joined Wilfork for the meeting, handed Goodell the DVD with a different camera angle that showed Wilfork may not have hit Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler in the head on a play in the Oct. 20 meeting between the Broncos and Patriots.
On the alternate DVD, Cutler could be seen picking himself up and patting Wilfork on the helmet after the play.
Though the fine stood, Wilfork was not suspended. Good job, Patriots video department! Now if you can somehow use your video skills to recoup $750,000 (may I suggest an amateur filmmakers competetion) and a first-round draft pick (may I suggest blackmail) then you’ll be all even for Spygate.
Tucked at the end of Mort’s report is that the Wilforks wrote the commissioner a thank you note after their meeting. Paul Tagliabue would never have stood for this nicey-nice crap! He also would have ruled the thank you letter taunting, and suspended Wilfork anyway.

Writing a note? Why didn't the Wilforks send a videotaped thank-you instead?

Can I get a copy of that? Or will unlawful distribution send Mr. & Mrs. Wilfork to jail?
