Patriots offensive lineman are making all sorts of news this week: While some are blowing their protective duties to Golden Boy Tom Brady, hilariously ending the team’s chances this year, others like Nick Kaczur are doing their duty to protect this country by blowing up drug rings.
Kaczur, as you’ll remember, was busted with about 200 Canadian-made Oxycontin last April and then, to get out of a year in jail - and, presumably, out of the goodness of his heart - worked out a deal with the authorities to wear a wire during his next few drug transactions. Well, the guy they busted just plead guilty. Eat it, drug pushers!
Daniel Ekasala, 35, entered a guilty plea to charges that were based on three transactions between the two that were secretly recorded by the US Drug Enforcement Administration in May.
Kaczur is not named in court records in Ekasala’s case, but has been identified as the cooperating witness by Ekasala’s defense attorney, Bernard Grossberg of Boston, and two sources briefed on the case.
Of course, the ironic thing is that Kaczur probably would have chosen prison time if he knew which way the season was going for the team this year. Protecting Tom Brady and his superstar good looks is one thing, but who can get that excited when Matt Cassel is taking snaps? Maybe Bill Belichick can find him another job. Kaczur does have spy experience.
