Patriots Coach Bill Belichick Criticized Unfairly For Abbreviated Interview

BELICHICK BLAMED FOR WILCOTS’ BOTCH: Enough already of people ripping New England Coach Bill Belichick for his abbreviated postgame TV interview with CBS sideline reporter Solomon Wilcots after the Patriots 38-24 loss to Indianapolis on Sunday.

I saw the interview live. I then watched it again … and again.

The reason Belichick came off as curt is Wilcots STOPPED ASKING QUESTIONS. Belichick is always short with responses, so it was the responsibility of the interviewer to be prepared with a sufficient number of questions to elongate the interaction.

In a previous life, I was a sideline reporter and interviewed plenty of high profile football personalities in the throes of defeat. Anyone with any knowledge in the field can see that the overmatched Wilcots was ill-prepared (and also very nervous).

An experienced professional football journalist would’ve machine-gunned the Patriots coach with questions over his team’s collapse. Wilcots was put in a position to do something he was not equipped to do. Don’t blame Belichick for his incompetence.
