Packers QB to Fans: Get on Board or “Shut Up”

Poor Aaron Rodgers. The new starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers found himself the latest data point in the ongoing media attempt to prove this theorem: “If we keep sticking a microphone in front of someone’s face, they’ll eventually say something incredibly stupid. Then we’ll have them!” (Okay, that last part isn’t so science-y. More mad science-y.)

Aaron Rodgers

(Don’t do it, Aaron; it’s a trap!)

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED asked Rodgers in their latest issue if he felt a need to be loved by Green Bay fans like Brett Favre was. Survey says:

““I don’t feel I need to sell myself to the fans,” Rodgers responded. “They need to get on board now or keep their mouths shut.””

We’re sure the Blessed Heart of St. Favre the Redeemer parish won’t have any problems with th… hey, where did all the pitchforks and torches go?

The MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL gave Rodgers a chance to explain himself. Not having learned from previous lessons, he happily kept digging:

““I do care deeply about the fans and I think anybody who has been to training camp sees a lot of times I’m the last one out signing autographs. I care about the fans; I care about their opinions,” Rodgers said. “Everybody wants the fans to care for them and to pull for them and I am no different.

“I think my record, as far as the time I spend with the fans, and more importantly the stuff I do in the community, kind of speaks for itself.””

He does stuff in the community, so shut up already!

It’s okay, though, Aaron; no one will ever know what you said. After all, it’s not like there will be any sportscasters left in Green Bay shortly.
