I,too, am a HUGE fan of Larry Bird. I followed him since ‘77 (during his ISU days) and was “dying” to meet him . FINALLY in August 1994 I had the opportunity to MEET him. I have since seen him on several occasions by beirng at the right place at the right time. He is a TOTAL GENTLEMAN and an ABAOLUTE ROLE MODEL !
I’m SO HAPPY to have met him.

When I read the headline the inspirational quest to meet larry bird, I thought this was a story about his daughter Corrie from his first marriage that lasted 11 months,he has only spoken to Corrie three times in her life….but she lived two miles away from him and attended the same college….the worst thing is she played basketball he never attended any of her games, and even worst than that she looks like him.

That was a great story, but Im not callin larry a nice guy until he mends those indiana fences in his own backyard.

Brought a tear to my eye. In the last years of my Dad’s life he was plagued with Altzheimers. Conversations got less and less substantive. But I could always count on an energetic response when it came to sports. I too grew up when the Celtics were stomping around the NBA and thought it was normal for the local team’s rafters to be littered with banners. Larry Bird and the whole team meant a lot to us. Plus those Larry Bird/Micheal Jordan commercials were hilarious. Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
