Yes, it was a cheap shot, but it doesn't look like either Conboy nor Tropp realize the other person is retaliating at the same time, and they both stop once they realize that Kampfer is hurt (even pushing each other off simultaneously). I realize you probably dislike hockey, but sensationalizing the events that transpired here is unfair. Especially when you consider that "thuggish violence" and cheap shots are not a widespread epidemic at the NCAA level. I happen to play NCAA hockey, and I can personally vouch for the fact that, yes, retaliations, while frowned upon by conferences, and coaches, DO happen in the course of the game, from time to time. Its not often that it happens, but it almost always gets whistled. Its unfair to condemn an entire sport because a couple kids got carried away. If you really think the sport has a growing problem, take a look at some of the brawls that were a regular occurrence in the 70's (at both the NHL and NCAA level...the BU/Minnesota brawl that is referenced in "Miracle" comes to mind) Actually watching the video, it doesn't really match your initial description of the act.
