Official: Woods Won’t Show For Own Tournament

Tiger Woods from his official website:

Due to injuries sustained in a one-car accident last week, Tiger Woods will be unable to play in the 2009 Chevron World Challenge.

“I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week,” Woods said. “I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I’m very sorry that I can’t be there.”

“We support Tiger’s decision and are confident the strong field and excellent course will provide an exciting week of competition at the Chevron World Challenge, said Greg McLaughlin, Tiger Woods Foundation President & CEO

Woods will not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action next year.

Woods had been scheduled for an opening press conference tomorrow here in L.A.

Now for why Woods may really be skipping out on the event…

If he shows up to the tournament, the Florida Highway Patrol may be able to tell if his injuries are not consistent with a car accident. If that’s the case, his wife Elin Nordegren could potentially be charged with domestic assault.

On the business side, since Woods’ biggest sponsor, Nike, has given him the all clear by throwing its full support behind Woods, the golfer probably thinks he won’t lose any other sponsors despite his no-show this week. Not to mention his opaque portrayal of the car accident and National Enquirer story of his alleged affair with Rachel Uchitel.

One thing that is beyond Woods’ control is Uchitel, who has hired Glorida Allred and will likely be all over the electronic media in coming days as she considers whether to pursue a defamation lawsuit against the Enquirer. A constant reminder of Woods’ alleged affair, whether Uchitel denies it or not.

If that does happen, you would think at some point Woods would address the story publicly. Woods’ no doubt has weighed his legal options regarding the Enquirer story and perhaps has concluded that it wouldn’t be worth risking his privacy to go to trial over the report.

Of course, that could change in a flash.

UPDATE: Jim McCabe of FOXSports.com and GOLFWEEK reports that Woods likely golf return would be at Torrey Pines in San Diego Jan. 28-31.

It’s hilarious how the big media tiptoed around this story in an attempt not to piss off Tiger and Nike.

What exactly is the reason Woods owes anyone but his family and law enforcement any reason for anything? Anyone care to explain that? Get out of the mud Brooks, you’re in the same sentence as the Enquirer, which shouldn’t make you happy but should want you to take a hot shower to scrub off the stank. Next time I check this site I wouldn’t be surprised to see “Tiger Trapped in Fridge-Eats Own Foot” as a headline, and about 110,000 dumbasses clicking on it.

This is great…because Tiger wants the world to think he’s mr perfect, this just wipes out his whole deck of cards. He’s just like every other million, er billion dollar athlete, he thinks he’s invincible and that he can pump as many chicks as he wants, and how dare ANYONE question God’s Messiah to the golfing world. Brooks is calling out Tiger’s BS and not backing down. I say good on ya mate!

I have been an avid Golfer for more than 35 years……have always felt that Woods is an A-Hole…..
Actually, I was a Fuzzy Zoeller fan, because of his sense of humor…..
Hope Elin takes this A-Hole for quite a ride….

Just shows you why Jeter is Sportsman of the Year. Wins and stays single while banging as many hot chicks as he wants without any controversy. He will get married when he is 40 and have his 2-3 kids. Wife will even be hotter then Tigers.
