Wow, we’re leading with the NBA today. Well, there’s good reason, as the Charlotte Bobcats, obviously relieved to be playing in front of real, live people (unlike home games), upset the Celtics last night in Boston 95-83.

In searching for anything remotely interesting about the game, besides the final score, this was all we could find - from Gary Dzen of the BOSTON GLOBE: “Paul Pierce didn’t show up for this one. The usually steady captain broke his new rule and talked to the media before the game. Pierce was just 4-of-14 from the field and finished with 13 points and 3 assists. You can expect him to be quiet before all future home games.”
We’re sure the Bobcats would agree that the only reason the C’s receded last night was Pierce jawing with the rumpled media masses well before tipoff. Sure.
As an aside, we’d like to point out that over an hour after the game had ended, the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER and the BOSTON HERALD only had ASSOCIATED PRESS accounts of the game on its websites. The Observer did get Rick Bonnell’s game account up a couple hours after the fact.
While some major newspapers now have two beat writers for the team, one for the print edition and one for online consumption, obviously that idea hasn’t spread sufficiently. It’s downright embarrassing for major print outlets like the Observer and Herald to have nothing fresh and/or original on the game immediately after it happens. Or for that matter, during the game. We know the beat reporters have nothing to do with this. The obstruction comes from the publishers and editors, scrimping to save in the wrong places.
