N.C. COLLEGES WATERING FAKE GRASS DURING DROUGHT: As North Carolina suffers from a severe drought, a couple of colleges go about watering their hockey fields - fields that are made of fake grass:

The GREENSBORO NEWS-RECORD rains down the news that Duke and the University of North Carolina have been spraying the synthetic turf - while citizens in Durham and Chapel Hill have been asked to conserve water.
Some folks are irate that they have to cut down on H2O comsumption, while the Blue Devils & Tar Heels are allowed to continue - especially on fields that shouldn’t be needing water in the first place.
But the schools say they’re only following orders from the International Hockey Federation, which requires college teams to saturate their fields before games and practices. Officials say wetting the turf helps balls bounce better and lessens the chance of injury.
Funny, we thought a slick field would actually increase chances of slipping and falling. But local folks with dying lawns and decreased shower times aren’t laughing.
