GOALIE SEAN MAKES A BURKE FOR IT, ENDS NHL CAREER: Sean Burke has left the crease, as the well-traveled NHL goalie is hanging up the skates:

2 MAN ADVANTAGE reports that the 40-year-old Burke announced his retirement today, finishing his career with the Los Angeles Kings.
Burke was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1985, helping turn a bad franchise into a mediocre one. After doing what he could in the Meadowlands, Burke hopped around the league, landing in net for 7 other teams during his tenure.
Looking back, our favorite moment of Burke’s career wasn’t necessarily about him, but his coach.

During the 1988 playoffs, Burke was lit up in a 6-1 loss to Boston. But instead of lambasting his goalie, Devils coach Jim Schoenfeld took his frustrations out on referee Don Koharski.
In a post-game encounter, Schoenfeld ripped into Koharski, calling him a “fat pig” and telling him to “have another donut!”
Wish we could see more fun times like that in the NHL. But since the league’s on Versus, we can’t.
