While I agree with the above, the whole new Jobing.com Arena fiasco didn't help. The Coyotes used to play downtown in the (then) America West Arena (where the Suns play). I would go to maybe 5-6 games a year, and some buddies of mine actually got together for season tickets for a few years.

The problem is that 1. Scottsdale residents voted for the new stadium, but the city wanted to see the books of the owner (a wise move, in retrospect), and 2. the city of Glendale jumps in with free land out in B.F.E., and that's the demise of the team, and 3. They hire expensive names that can't translate into victories.

I live in the Southeast Valley, and the Coyotes (and Cardinals) are 54 miles each way from me. That may be okay for the occasional Sunday tailgate for the Cards - you make a day of it - it doesn't work for weeknights. In the old days, at least you could catch a game after work when they were downtown (and were often in the playoffs).

bettman refuses to acknowledge the complete and utter failure of his southern expansion

hockey's failing in florida/carolina/arizona/atlanta/tennesse?

didn't see that coming

the nhl needs to get down to 24 teams, and have franchises back in winnipeg, quebec, and hartford, along with a team in hamilton

the talent pool won't be as diluted and the on-ice product will improve....provided they also stop trying to take fighting out of the game...
