NFL Goats Wear Wedding Bands, Watch On Field

The Broncos are officially the worst 3-0 team in NFL history after the Saints handed Denver a 34-32 win yesterday. The goat of the game? Undoubtedly kicker Martin Gramatica, who missed a makeable 43-yard field goal with 1:53 to go that could’ve given the Saints a victory.

Making Gramatica and holder Steve Weatherford all-the-more endearing to their bloodied, exhausted teammates was their postgame reaction to the kick, and stylish on-field accoutrements.

Gramatica forced his teammates to comment on the missed kick, as he bolted from the locker room after the game without showering.

Then his holder, Steve Weatherford, did the manly thing and threw his kicker under the bus: “The hold was good and he made good contact. Other than that, I can’t tell much more. He may have been making an adjustment for the one he missed at the end of the half.

The best thing about the missed kick? I actually paid close enough attention to notice that Gramatica and Weatherford wore their wedding bands on the field during the game. While Weatherford also sported a watch.

Gramatica also apparently had his wallet and cellphone with him - considering his lightning-fast pickup and accompanying prohibitive fare from a hometown cabbie.

UPDATE: Rick Chandler of DEADSPIN has a similar observo.

Try as he might, I know someone that does a much better Reggie Roby impression than that.

Maybe the extra weight of Grammatica’s ring and Weatherford’s wrist caused the field goal shank.
