New Wine Collection Features Rescued Vick Dogs

We’ve recently found out what financial folly Michael Vick has been up to as he gets ready to leave Leavenworth. But what about the poor creatures that were the reason for his incarceration in the first place? The animals that were rescued from Vick’s dogfighting operation are still undergoing rehab. And one winemaker wants to make sure the dogs remain as the toast of the town.

The ASSOCIATED PRESS drinks in the news of a new vintage for sale called the “Vicktory Dogs Wine Collection”. The bottles feature painted portraits of 22 dogs that were taken from Vick’s Bad Newz Kennel. And on the back of the bottles, the description of the wines has been replaced with stories of each dog’s journey from hell to rehabilitation.

The Vicktory Dogs go for $40 each, or $672 if you want to collect the whole 22-bottle set. Ten percent of each wine sale goes to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the shelter in Utah were Vick’s former dogs are being treated and cared for.

Artist Cyrus Mejia, one of the founders of Best Friends, began painting the dogs after they arrived at the sanctuary. Gone in the portraits are any signs of snarling beasts fit for a fight ring. Instead, there are cocked heads, soulful eyes and floppy ears.

And what better way to show off your heartfelt artistic endeavors than by distributing it on alcoholic beverages.

OK, that’s not fair of me to say. This is a noble cause to help make sure people stay aware of the awfulness of animal abuse, and to show that abused dogs should be given a second chance.

So, how many cases should we put Vick down for?

Just when we heard enough 'wining' about Michael Vick's dogs.

What a novel idea. I'll drink to that!
